On Vancouver Island

Hello all! (and by all I mean whoever is taking a chance by checking this blog, just to see, since I haven't posted for exactly one month)

I'm in Courtenay on the Island right now. Its pretty great, I can see a mountain with snow on the top right now. I left Toronto yesterday and had to sit in a middle seat where this jag beside decide that the world was his oyster of elbow space. Seriously, you give concessions to the person in the middle seat, you respect their usage of the arm rest, you DO NOT lean over into their space while you're flipping through a magazine! I almost flipped out at this guy, b/c I also have a cold and was incredibly exhausted. I tried several times to give the signal that he should move his freaking arm by putting my in an appropriate place on the armrest, which I will have you know was not impeding on his actual seat space, so yes I am better. But then he wouldn't move, and I really didn't want to sit there touching his arm, gross. Jerk face. So angry about that. Yes, still have a cold, still tired. I caught the bus from the airport to the ferry (praise God I got on the one that left like 4 minutes after I got my luggage) and took the ferry to Nanaimo. The water was beautifuly and it was super windy, but now I'm here and its a week of Island Fever coming up. Or something.... I don't know what I'm talking about.

I left Montreal at the beginning of May and was doing field work with a colleague in Cape Croker. I'll add some pictures.

Then I stayed in OS until I went to the T dot. I really love Montreal, but sometimes I miss Toronto a lot. They're incredibly different cities, and there's something homey about Toronto. Perhaps b/c its the place I lived in the longest since moving away from the Sound.

Next week I'm presenting at a conference in Vancouver, and I need to work on my presentation more. But that also involves listening to the tapes of field work which is an exercise in extreme patience and concentration. I'm not sure I can do it with a clogged sinus, especially since I can't hear as well and won't be able to pick up all the sounds properly.

Well, I'll try to post again soon, but I make no promises.
